What is Shot Peening ?

Shot peening is primarily used to: Improve fatigue strength of the gear tooth in the root fillet. Increase surface fatigue life to reduce pitting and increase durability and overall strength.

Primarily used in Motorsport shot peening gives the end user reliability avoiding failures to help win races.

What is the function of shot peening?

Shot peening is a cold working process used to produce a compressive residual stress layer and modify the mechanical properties of the gear / metals.

It entails impacting a surface with shot (round metallic, glass, or ceramic particles) with a force sufficient to create deformation.
This compacts the material creating density and strength.

What is the benefit of peening a surface?

Shot Peening causes the material in the surface zone to yield by literally shaking the metal grains into a more relaxed state. As a result, the surface layer counteracts tensile stress and effectively prevents cracking.

Removal of stress risers formation produced when the gear is manufactured, the processes.

Shot peened gears generally will exhibit strength of a gear that is 25% larger in cross section.

We carryout this process on nearly all of our Motorsport builds as the benefits and real world results speak for them selves.

If you want reliability, strength and performance and a competitive edge then this is a must have for any hard-core enthusiast or competitors.
